Pepsi not interested in Cokes formula

Pepsi Inc recently cooperated with the FBI to turn in an executive secretary at Coca Cola Inc. who was trying to get them to buy the secret formula for coke. Pepsi smartly turned them down. After all Pepsi tries really hard to make themselves different from coke so that they will stand out more.

Sure Coke is great, but if wvery softdrink tasted just like Coke, wouldn't that be boring?

Coke has a very succesfull business, and is the number one soft drink in the world, and that should be admired and respected....but does not need to be replicated.

The guilt killed him

Ken Lay of Enron infammy died today of a massive heart attack, most likely brought on by the ton of guilt he had on his shoulders after greed lead him to lie and betray his loyal employees.

He was a leader and a hard worker, but sold his sole to the devil and in the end he knew what he had done was wrong, even though he could never bring himself to a public admission. He kept it all inside and it built up more and more until... wham! His misdeeds came back to haunt him in the form of what would be the grim reaper.

Don't fear the reaper, Ken. After all it was your destiny.

How to killer buzz for a bad movie

The producers of a movie coming out this August are brilliant marketers. The movie is probably one you have heard of if you visit blogs or surf the internet much. I am referring of course to Snakes on a Plane, which is creating a buzz on-line through blogs, and then the news wires such as CNN pick up on this buzz creating even more buzz. All because the producers were savvy enough to give the movie a dumb name and leak out what the even dummer plot is (snakes are let loose on a plane). The movie sounds so bad, I just have to go see it to see how bad it will be.

I have three predictions about this movie based on what I know.

1. It will be one of the worst movies of the year
2. The movie will clean up at the box office
3. Everyone involved with the movie will be laughing all the way to the bank

who knows maybe this type of brilliant marketing strategy will be taught all across business schools this Fall?

New worlds record set

A new world's record was set recently. The Rubics Cube was solved by a kid in California in 11 seconds. I received a rubics cube as a present in the early 80's and I have yet to solve the damn thing!

Looks like rubics cubes have come back in vogue again.

Sprint not much help in assisting with finding child

I have Sprint for my cell phone, and this is really bad PR for them. A child was in a stolen vehicle and the owners cell phone was also in the car with attching GPS. Sprint refused to help withthe location until authorities went through the proper "red tape".

You My Boy Blue!!!!

The character actor who played "Blue" in the 2003 film "Old School" sadly passed away recently. He practically stole that film. Should have won an oscar for his portrayal, I think.

Time Magazine Persons of the Year

I never thought I would see Bono and Bill Gates on the same magazine cover, but that is exactly what is occurring this month with Time Magazine Persons of the Year . Bono, Bill, and his wife Melinda have been chosen for their humanitarian efforts.

Bono has been involved with organizing the One campaign and Bill and Melinda have been giving away millions to promote and assist with world poverty. I applaud the efforts of whe winners and Kudos to Time for recognizing them!

So Long Richard, you will be missed

I remember buying my first Richard Pryor audio tape when I was in my early teens. It was his classic recording "Live on the Sunset Strip" and I found it to be amusing, hilarious, and somewhat confusing because I did not know everything he was making jokes about. I did know even at my young age that this recording was very controversial, and cutting edge. He certainly wasn't doing the same material in Superman III, that was for sure.

Many comedians past present and future owe a lot of gratitude to Richard Pryor as he was a pioneer in cutting edge comedy with his unique brand of humor. He was an equal opportunity offender, as they say, making fun of all races, while looking introspectively at his own race and how blacks fit into society in the 1960's and 1970's.

He definitely has his demons (mainly drugs), but those same demons often became material for his live comedic performances. He was truly a great performer, and I as many others are saddened by his passing.

Liquid Gold

The title of my blog entry is referring to the outrageously high price of gasoline. I am sure this is on a lot of people's minds, and everyone and their brother is blogging about it, but I just could not resist. Here in my home state of North Carolina, the average price of gas is among the highest in the U.S. Around $3.09 a gallon. What is this stuff, gold? The last time I checked, there were no more hurricanes damaging refineries any more, nor is their a shortage. Does this mean the high prices are here to stay. I certainly hope not. I believe the Bush administration as well as other world leaders should do all they can to find alternatives to our oil consumption since our need for oil will only increase. Meanwhile other counties are outpacing even the U.S in their need for Oil (see China).

What am I going to do about this crisis other than blog about it? Well, if gas prices stay the way they are I will be getting one of these.
